Sound Structures

Description

Sound Structures is a human machine collaboration in a design and manufacturing process that is based on research about sound absorbing structures. Aimed at creating a system of unique, three dimensionally deformed felt panels with maximized surface area, a thermoforming process is used to create topologies defined by the arrangement of spheres in a flexible mould at a specific moment. The contradiction between the robots repeatable tool paths resulting in randomization and the consistent contribution of the human create an ironic and playful yet fabrication driven choreography.
